Parei o carro a 740 metros do ponto exato.

06-Aug-2013 -- After almost five months without visiting confluences, I used a business trip to Belém city, Pará state, and made a new visit with a lot of new particularities.

At first, this is my northernmost confluence, and the nearest to the Equator line. It’s located only 1º of south latitude, or exactly 110.57 km to the Equator line.

As I have just registered my northernmost confluence, I have a good opportunity to remember other extremities. My southernmost confluence was 25S 49W, in Paraná state. At north-south direction, then, from Pará to Paraná, I went from 1 to 25 parallels.

At the other direction, the easternmost confluences were two: 8S 35W and 7S 35W, the first in Pernambuco state and the second in Paraíba state. And the westernmost confluences were 22S 52W and 21S 52W, the first in São Paulo state and the second in Mato Grosso do Sul state. At east-west direction, I went from 35 to 52 meridians. By the way, the 35th meridian is the easternmost confluence of Brazil. After it, there are only confluences in the open sea.

Another particularity of this confluence is that this is my first visit of Pará state. By now, I have visits in 16 out of the 27 Brazilian states.

And, finally, this visit is my first one in North region of Brazil, and by now I have visits in all five Brazilian regions. My 65 confluences are distributed as follows: 40 in Southeast region, 19 in Northeast region, 3 in South region, 2 in Center-West region and 1 in North region.

Back to the confluence narrative. On Tuesday, 6 August, I left my hotel in Belém at 6:30 and started the trip with a car rented in eve day. In this day, I would have a totally free morning, and my business duty would start only at 15:30. The available time was more then enough to make the visit.

I caught the BR-316 highway and started the 78 kilometers long leg on paved road. I faced a huge traffic jam when leaving the city. Although I had a big amount of available time, I started to concern about the possibility of not having available time to make the visit.

When arriving at Santa Isabel do Pará city, by now without any traffic jam, I turned left and caught the PA-140 highway, heading up to a bit before Vigia city access road. At this point the long leg of dirt road, 21 kilometers long, would start.

The dirt road was in moderate conditions, with a lot of sand in some legs and a bit of mud in other ones. There were also big puddles, due probably to the rain of previous afternoon, since in this region of Brazil the rain falls practically all afternoons. I hadn’t, however, any hardness to manage this leg. I stopped the car 740 meters close to the exact point.

I left the car at the edge of the road and started the hike by a track, which heads approximately in confluence direction. The first leg of the hike, then, was very easy and I went up to 170 meters to the exact point. From this point, the hike turned more hard by a leg with taller bush, and with some hardness I got all GPS zeroes.

After visiting the point, I made the back way and arrived at Belém at 12:20, with enough time to have lunch and take a shower before my business duty.
