24-Jul-2012 -- Whenever I'm driving from Saarbrücken to Cologne I have a refuelling stop in Mertert, a small city on the river Moselle in Luxembourg. This time I decided to also visit the only confluence point in Luxembourg and so I drove another 70 km into the northern part of Luxembourg.

The way to Enscherange leads over some twisty roads through a heavily wooded area, the Oesling. I parked my car at the entrance of Enscherange, because I feared that the road conditions of the street "Op der Schleckt" were too bad and that it was too steep. I followed the steep trail at the end of the road "Op der Schleckt" very slowly and so it took me about 20 minutes for a distance of about 600 meters from my parking lot to the "Kiischpelter Sonnenkreis" (Kiischpelt solar circle), which was built around the confluence point.

Having reached the solar circle I first sat down on a bench and rested there for a few minutes and enjoyed the view of the valley and the village Enscherange, Then I began to search for the exact position of the confluence point. The Kiischpelt solar circle is made of cobblestones and a metal rod with an attached ball in the centre of the circle. I've put my GPS device on that ball and to my surprise I had almost all the zeros in the position display. I could get all zeros a little south of the center outside of the circle.

A table in French and German provides you with information about the Kiischpelt solar circle and what you can do there. The French side of the table is quite dirty so one of the next visitors should pack some cleaning material and clean the table. Other visitors will be grateful.

You can get detailed information about the solar circle on the side of webwalking.lu in German and in French.

Having spent about half an hour at the confluence point, I went back to the car and reached Cologne two hours later. Another interesting point near this confluence point in about 20 km distance is a Europe monument at the border triangle of Germany-Belgium-Luxembourg.
