#1: The Confluence from 30 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

05-Jun-2017 -- Actually, we walked 1200 km from Zurich to Denmark to visit this confluence point, see the initiary of our hike. But to be honest – visiting this confluence point was only a nice side-effect on our way to the North Cape.

The night before confluence day, we reached the town Vordingborg, which is only 6 km from the confluence as the crows fly. After we had hiked 50 km the previous day, Elionora didn’t feel like getting up early to do a 14-km return extra loop just for the confluence visit. So I jogged alone in the early morning at 5:30 AM along the bike path via the village Nyråd to the confluence.

The exact location is on a track between the main highway no.59 and a farmhouse. It is probably one of the quickest possible visits if you come by car, since there is an exit from the motorway E47 just 400 m away.

But the visit wasn’t totally smooth. When I was just about to take the photos for the cardinal directions, two barking dogs came out of the farmer’s yard towards me. But I continued taking pictures, having in mind that barking dogs don’t bite. And indeed, my strategy worked: the dogs kept on barking from some secure distance. After I had finished the documentation, I slowly moved backwards in order to let the dogs not get into a mode of chasing me. And as you read these lines, you can be sure I survived this scene.

I returned to my hotel about two hours after my start, right at the time to have breakfast and continue hiking northwards.
