#1: The spot at 34N 6W

(visited by Uwe Bertele)

04-Oct-2003 -- Continued from 32N 4W.

This was the third and last confluence point during a 3-week tour around Morocco. The confluence trip started in Casablanca on the rainy 4th of October 2003. I drove about 180 km from Casablanca to Khémisset, and further on a small road 25 km north to the confluence point. The point is not far from the street, but since it was raining a walk wouldn't have been too pleasant.

There area around the point is almost flat. The people living here are poor and the farmhouses are very simple. The farmhouses are connected with a lot of small paths and some of them are too narrow to be driven by car. At a distance of 120 m from the point, there was no further driving anymore. The people looked quite astonished, since they didn't expect and probably never had any foreign visitors until today at 12:30. Explaining to them what the Confluence Project meant seemed to have no sense. Asking them for allowance to have a walk (through their gardens) and look at their cactus "plantations" was very much accepted and made some of them laugh. Some of the people were suspicious, but still very friendly, others made jokes about getting lost in their area.
