29-Dec-2019 -- This is the 22nd out of 23 confluence visits in Saudi Arabia. The story starts at 28°N 48°E and continues from 24°N 47°E.
We visited this confluence point on our way from Riyadh to Dammam, coming from the south. We left Highway 80 and continued towards the town Rumah. The confluence is 2 km west of the Rumah Highway. There are several sandy tracks running all the way to the confluence, i.e. this confluence is a “drive-in”. Shortly before reaching the confluence, we reached the border stone of Riyād. On our drive, we were guarded by camel treks. We parked at a distance of 80 m.
The confluence is in a fenced compound for animals. Since first recorded back in 2001, this confluence has always been inside the animal compound. However, there is more infrastructure now. Besides the fence, there are several earth walls, earth hills, garbage, tracks and shanties. We did not scale the fence, which runs 33 m south of the confluence point. Standing on one of the earth walls, we had a good view on the confluence, which was - according to my estimation - exactly inside the sheep herd.
We walked back to the car and continued our trip to the oasis city Al Hofuf.
