English narrative

28-Mar-2013 -- We returned from “climbing” the Ojos del Salado volcano with my 4WD Suzuki Vitara (Pampa 02), after reaching, off-road, the unbelievable height of 5884 m over sea level.

We had enough time to spend and then I suggested Matías if he wanted to become a confluence hunter during our returning trip.

The first one that we found was the 29°S 67°O; although it was relatively easy, the capture became more difficult due to the weather conditions. Confluence is almost on the accessible top of the small mountain range aside the RP 75 but some minutes before we had surprised by a strong hailstone followed by a persistent misty rain.

We waited a little but finally we decided to go anyway, despite the risk of slips and possible lightning strike: the madness for the confluence makes you crazy.

We left my Pampa 02 on the road shoulder and we set up to reduce to zero the 540 meters that we were separated of the confluence. The first 400 meters were quite easy, fighting against the vegetation and some deep ravine plenty of mud but at the beginning of the climb of the mountain, at only 140 meters of the goal, all became difficult and risky.

Confluence was very near but it seemed that it was never approached because the slope was strong.

It was very demanding to enter to the successful circle of 100 meters of radius and when we reached it, we decided that it would be enough: the capture was valid and it wasn’t reasonable to take risks.

We left for other hunters the labor to reach a better approach; for us, 93 meters was enough.

My friend Matías did his first capture, withstanding stoically the difficulties: a very good baptism!

We returned painfully and totally wet to the car, and at 3:00 pm we had the delayed lunch to celebrate our success.

Already delighted, we planned to reach another confluence before night, the 31°S 66°W, a “miracle” if we are successful due to the long distance between the confluences.
