#1: View of confluence point, 55 m beyond the chain link fence

(visited by John Gordon)

31-Oct-2010 -- It is well documented from earlier visits that this confluence point is located within the Concord Naval Weapons Station, and as such is not accessible by members of the public. However, from the public road that passes through the area, it is possible to reach a point that is well within the 100 m range necessary for a successful confluence point visit.

Approaching Concord from the east along Highway 4, I turned south at junction 17 on to Willow Pass Road. After 2 km, the road goes into a long dip and there are wide sealed verges on either side where it is easy to pull over and park. The restricted access area of the Naval Weapons Station is beyond the high chain link fences that extend along either side of the road.

Stopping on the right hand side, I crossed the busy road and located the point adjacent to the fence where the distance to the confluence point beyond was minimized. From there, the GPS showed the confluence point to be located 55 m to the south east. I took the necessary photographs for the record, and, after noticing the nearby sign advertising a recent gun show, decided it was time to leave.
