18-Feb-2010 -- We were driving from Lille to the Vosges for a long weekend, where Phil would meet Catherine's parents for the first time (scary). To avoid the debilitating French motorway tolls, we took the France - Belgium - Luxembourg - France route. On the way we noticed that we would pass 50N 5E, and Phil mentioned that it was his last 'missing' CP in Belgium. Catherine was up for her first Confluence hunting experience so, despite it getting late and dark, we turned off the A4/E411 for a (hopefully quick) CP detour.

The point is an easy one to get to, being just a few meters north of the N835, and is sited between Haut-Fays and Gribelle. We parked on a farm track a couple of hundred metres to the west, and entered the woodland in which the point is located. There were some minor problems with the GPS accuracy, due to the trees, and it was just after finding the point that Phil found that he'd left his newly recharged camera battery in his house in Lille (doh!) One walk back to the car and then back to the point later, we tried again with his small spare camera. No luck - that camera's battery was completely flat. Finally, after another walk back to the car (to get Catherine's camera), we finally managed to get some pictures to the North, East, South and West.

Unfortunately, after wasting all this time trying to find a working camera, night had fallen, so this CP hunt became a night-time visit by default. Thus, the pictures are rather dark (albeit nicely atmospheric and spooky). Regardless, one can see the (winter) forest to the North, East and West, and the N835 to the South.

Back to the car, and on to the Vosges!
