THE CONFLUENCE OF AGUA POCA

This confluence was one of the multiple goals of the Agua Poca Expedition that, among others, was to crown one of the three volcanoes and to visit the last three “unvisited” confluences of La Pampa province.

After the great lentil stew that we had for dinner, to fight off the cold weather in the camp site that we had installed on Agua Poca spring when we returned from the successful catch of the 37°S 67°W, we made a QSO by HF in 80 meters band (HAM Radio) with Buenos Aires and then, we went to sleep, under an incredible star-covered sky.

The next morning, we dismantled the camp and hurried just to follow the track of approximation that we had found two years ago, and that would take us only 3.2 km far from the confluence. Now, as we had much more time, we’d try to go ahead with our vehicles a little more and then, finish the work on foot.

Nevertheless, Gods were with us and a wide and clean firewall appeared in the middle of the way that pointed to the confluence. It didn’t exist in the past so it wasn’t visible even in the Earth Google.

We followed it, and the distance was dizzily reduced to 1600 meters. Then we evaluated if it was convenient to continue cross camp or not, but we decided finally to do it, because, even though a series of rocky hills could be seen from there, vegetation wasn’t aggressive at all.

Those 1600 meters that separated us from our objective disappeared quickly and in a funny way. Minutes later, we got the zeros in the GPS without coming out from the vehicles, not a normal situation, if you consider that after having visited 75 confluences, it was the third time that we achieve that complicated goal. The second one of the trip was a fact.

Then we were one goal left to complete the trip, and the most important one: to ascend Agua Poca volcano and, the last but not the least, to conquer the 36°S 67°W, which was because of several motives strongly desired by us.
