05-Jun-2005 -- The confluence point (CP) is about 35km (22mi) from my home, can be easily reached and is not situated on private property. It seemed like a pretty good first CP to visit.

Sunday june 5 2005 was the day: the weather wasn’t too good but the dry periods between heavy showers seemed long enough to make the visit worthwhile. First, we prepared by printing a detailed map, planned the route to the CP and of course entered the CP as a waypoint in my GPS. After a short drive of about 30 minutes we reached the CP without difficulties. We parked the car about 100m (300ft) away. Within 5 minutes we had zeroed in on the CP and we were taking pictures. According to my GPS the CP was in the middle of a bicycle road (but I had a 5m accuracy that day).

We did notice the roads had changed significantly and it would seem my maps are out of date. But that did not prevent us from locating the CP.

The surroundings are flat and open with some trees lining the roads. A few km away is the 375m tall (1200ft) transmitting tower near IJsselstein.

Unfortunately the weather deteriorated quickly, so we spent no more than 20 minutes at the CP. I even forgot to take a westward picture and a picture of the general area. But it looks pretty much the same as the other cardinal directions anyway.

A passing police car took an interest in us, the police officers stopped their car near the roundabout to see what we were doing. They left when they saw we were leaving.
