26-Mar-2016 -- We were touring the eastern part of the State of São Paulo, close to the border with Minas Gerais, where the Mantiqueira mountains (mainly coffee) end and the northwest plains begin, where sugar is the main crop.

Our hotel was in the city of São João da Boa Vista, at a distance of 15 km from Aguaí. On Saturday at 05:30 I left the hotel towards Aguai. Once I had left the city I began to drive down a road aside the railroad tracks. The day before it had rained a lot, and on the route between São João da Boa Vista and Aguaí fell again a strong flood, and on the way along the track I was accompanied by a persistent drizzle.

A short distance after leaving the city, the road became a dirt road, in the first kilometers fairly firm, but after a few minutes the status of that ground became already impassable to my car's simple traction.

Using maps I had verified once that after leaving the city there are approximately 5 kilometres until reaching a point where one no longer could advance by car, and from that point about 2 kilometers to reach the confluence. The unexpected impassable state of the street required an additional 3 kilometers of walking (plus the way back).

I left the car at the roadside, climbed on the railroad track (which was much easier to walk in these circumstances) and headed slowly towards my destination.

After a while I had to step aside to let pass a long freight train of the company Ferrovia Centro Atlántica, which operates this sector.

Then I got to the point where the road moves away from the railroad (that without rain could have been reached without any problem), it was 06:30 and the two nearby farms in which I could ask permission to enter and thus cut the road were still asleep, so I decided to follow the railroad. After a few meters, I went through the ruins of an old station (prior even to the city of Aguaí), Engenheiro Mendes.

Following the way I saw a coffee plantation to my right at whose end began the sugar cane plantation where the confluence is located.

The only difficult point was when I had to leave the railroad, there were several difficult meters up to the road that borders the sugarcane plantation. I saved this impediment and started to walk for about a kilometer (could be much less if there was a direct path) between the paths that run between cane plantations, sometimes firmer, sometimes very muddy and even coated by a layer of 10 cm of water. Finally I came within 90 meters of the confluence point, from where was no choice but to penetrate in the high reeds.

The reeds were highgrown, reaching 3 meters. The first steps were not hard and I could advance, but soon I found that it was impossible to continue through the reeds.

I got to 70 meters of the confluence, registered the point and began the slow and happy return. It gave me time to arrive at the hotel before 10:00 and I took advantage of the rich and revitalising breakfast.
