05-Aug-2001 -- J'avais vu le "Degree Confluence Project" sur internet, et le dimanche 5 août au matin, j'ai demandé à mon père (moi, j'ai dix ans) d'aller voir le point 50° N 2°E, qui n'est pas très loin d'Amiens, où nous habitons. Le temps était nuageux, avec du soleil de temps en temps. La route était facile à trouver grâce à la carte IGN au 1/25 000è : il fallait aller à Condé-Folie, village en bordure de la vallée de la Somme, et de là, remonter vers les champs par une petite route, en direction du sud-ouest. Le point recherché est près du croisement de cette route avec la D 70; il se trouve à l'intérieur d'un champ de blé, qui avait été moissonné : il était donc possible de progresser à la recherche du point. Nous l'avons trouvé à environ 120 pas de la petite route, et 40 pas de la D70.

Nous avons pris quelques photos, de ce paysage typique de plateau en bordure de la vallée de la Somme. D'après la carte, le point recherché est très proche de la limite des territoires communaux de Condé-Folie et de Bettencourt-Rivière, et je ne peux pas dire, pour l'instant, dans laquelle de ces deux communes il se situe.

J'ai été très déçu quelques jours après, car la photo du gps est floue (il semble que notre appareil automatique ait fait la mise au point sur le sol, et non sur l'écran du gps !!!)

05-Aug-2001 -- I had seen "the Degree Confluence Project" site on the internet, and on August 5, a Sunday morning, I asked my father (I am 10) to go and find the 50°N and 2°E point of confluence. This is not far from Amiens, where we live. The weather was cloudy, but with sun from time to time. The way was easy to find with the precise map (IGN 1/25000). We had to drive first to Conde-Folie, a village next to the river Somme, then in a southwesterly direction, getting upwards to the fields. The confluence degree is located near the crossing of this narrow road with the one called D70, and inside a field of wheat that has been harvested. It was therefore possible to progress in search of the point. To find the point we needed to walk about 120 steps from the little road, or 40 steps from the D70 road.

We took some photos of the landscape, which show the typical fields of this place, the border of a plateau close to the Somme valley. According to the map, the Degree Confluence Point is very near the land boundaries between Conde-Folie and Bettencourt-Riviere, and I do not yet know on which of these two villages we may say the point is situated.

I was very disappointed a few days after, because the photo showing our GPS unit is fuzzy (it seems the automatic photo camera chose to focus on the ground and not on the GPS screen!!!)
