14-Jan-2001 -- In the early morning (1pm) of 14-Jan-2001 we were leaving our camp near Altenmarkt i. Triestingtal, not without having a last meeting with Reinhold Messner. He instructed us in climbing without oxygen masks. Thank you, Reini. It started as a beautiful day (it changed when we realized that we forgot to take food with us).

At the beginning of our tour we just had to follow a simple way. It's called the "Mariazeller Wanderweg", an ancient pilgrim's path. Rapidly we (the pilgrims) crossed one contour line after the other. Reaching the plateau the air became rare. But keeping our decice in mind (When the going gets tough, the tough gets going) there was no return. 2:02 pm we were touched by the typical magnetic field caused energy waves. We knew we were near. We were not. 3:16 pm we detected our target. Have a look.
