17-Jan-2021 --

17-Jan-2021 --

Saturday, January 16, my wife and I started other big trip by car, as we made in September of previous year (whose narrative begins at 18S 50W confluence). At this time, we would go from Montes Claros city, Minas Gerais state, to Marabá city, Pará state, in order to seek and take our son and my stepdaughter, who were spending their vacations, visiting the friends that they made during the time they lived in that city. We would make different ways when going and when coming back, and I would attempt to visit new confluences.

In the first day, we left Montes Claros and went up to Brasília city, 700 kilometers far. We faced rain during the majority of the trip and we had lunch in a restaurant at the highway.

In the second day, we left Brasília, heading to north. Yet in the morning, the car registered 1000 kilometers since the start of the trip. A bit after, when we were in BR-153 (Belém-Brasília) highway, in Goiás state, we turned right and caught a dirt road, starting our detour aiming to visit 14S 49W confluence.

The dirt road leg, 13 kilometers long, was in reasonable condition, although with a lot of water puddles, an evidence that it had rained a lot in the region. When we are approximating to the point, we realized that we are going in the direction of heavy rain clouds. This fact concerned me, because, if a heavy rain starts to fall, I don’t know if the way back by dirt road would be drivable. Beside of this, the final leg to the exact point would include a 3 kilometers long round hike.

When we are 5 kilometers beeline to the exact point, the rain started to fall, and I realized that it didn’t worth to go ahead, due to the cited reasons. We gave up of the visit and made the way back to the highway.

We resumed the trip and stopped to have lunch in a restaurant at the highway, as we made in the previous day. After the lunch, we crossed the line between Goiás and Tocantins states and stopped at Gurupi city, where we spent the second night of our trip. In this day, we travelled by 690 kilometers.

This was the unique confluence that I had planned to attempt in my way going, because simply there wasn’t any other doable confluences, despite the huge distance from Montes Claros to Marabá. Along the last years, I made several trips to Brasília and to Palmas, and in these trips I had visited several confluences near this itinerary. In Marabá surroundings, I also had visited several confluences, when I was living there. And the same case in Montes Claros surroundings, where I am living nowadays. And, completing, in December 2018, I made a car trip from Marabá to Belo Horizonte, driving in opposite direction almost the same itinerary of the current trip, when I was changing from Marabá to Montes Claros. In that trip, I visited 12S 49W confluence, in Tocantins state, and 17S 46W one, in Minas Gerais state. All these trips practically exhaust the list of relatively easy confluences that could be visited along the way that we travelled when going.

An interesting curiosity is that, in cited 12S 49W narrative, I commented that, due to my change of city, I would probably spend a long time without visiting new confluences in Tocantins state and I didn’t even know if someday I would make a new visit on it. When I commented that, I thought that I wouldn’t have any reason to come back to Tocantins state. As opposed to my expectations of that period, I came back to Tocantins two years after. Nevertheless, a new confluence in this state will need to wait more. During my planning of this trip, I thought about an attempt to 9S 49W, in Tocantins state, but I gave up of this plan because it would demand a very big deviation and it would spoil the plan of our trip.

In Monday, third day of our trip, we left Gurupi city and we travelled up to Araguaína city, yet in Tocantins state, in a 635 kilometers trip. It rained a lot, during almost the entire trip. We took a snack, replacing the lunch, in a snack bar at the highway. In relation to the 9S 49W confluence, which I thought about visiting it but gave up yet in planning phase due to its big detour, even if I would keep it in my plan, it wouldn’t be visited, because, when we passed by the point where the detour starts, it was raining a lot.

In order to remember the trips that we already made to Araguaína city, in this opportunity we stayed in the same hotel and we had dinner in the same restaurant of previous opportunities. When I was living in Marabá city, I made three trips to Araguaína. The first one was in March 2015, when I attempt to visit 7S 49W and 7S 48W confluences, both unsuccessful. The second trip was in November 2016, when I visited 7S 49W and 8S 48W confluences. And the third one was in September 2017, when I visited 7S 48W confluence.

Finally, on Tuesday, fourth day of our trip, we drove the remaining 300 kilometers up to Marabá. In this trip, the car registered 2000 kilometers since the start of the trip in Montes Claros. This leg of the trip includes the ferry crossing of Araguaia River, line between Tocantins and Pará states. When I was changing from Marabá, at the end of year 2018, I heard that the construction of a bridge over the river, in the place where we crossed by ferry, was approved. Now, a bit more than two years after, the works are in progress, but yet at its beginning, with the construction of the first pillars, as shown in one of the published photos.

This narrative continues on 8S 46W confluence.
