01-Jan-2018 -- This is the 7th out of 11 reports reaching confluence points during our two-week trip through southern Brazil and eastern Paraguay. The story starts at 23°S 46°W and continues from 23°S 50°W. The itinerary and additional pictures can be found here.
On our route from Rio do Janeiro to Foz do Iguaçu our road (PR-323) missed this confluence by only 1 kilometre. We parked at on a dirt-track in 600 m distance and tried to walk the rest on foot.
However, the closer we came to the confluence point, the more difficult it got. The reeds got higher and higher. The ground got softer and softer. At 100 m distance we had already wet shoes and at 75 m distance walking continued in knee-deep water. At 57 m distance there was a hole in the ground where I almost fell in. At this point I decided not to ruin my unprotected mobile phone and documented our visit right where we were. May be from the other side we could have gotten a bit closer to the confluence without entering the swamp.
After the visit we continued driving towards Foz do Iguaçu that we reached before nightfall. On our way, we enjoyed a great Rodízio.
