02-Jul-2017 -- During our holiday in Sicily the opportunity to visit the confluence point 38N 15E presented itself. So far only two visits of this CP have been reported - I know now why!

The approach was very easy. Sometimes we had a view of the volcano Mt. Etna! We left the "Strada Provinziale 110 Montalbanese" by coming from the west near "Portella Zilla", just before the junction of "Strada Provinziale 115 Tripiciani" (Which beautiful names were given to Streets in Italy!). Now we drove on a fairly well-traveled country road about 2 km to the north, only 365 m from the confluence point. Along this way you will pass picturesque mountain pastures fenced with barbed wire. At the nearest accessible point you have to overcome a descent of about 170 meters and impenetrable thorns and ferns! The blackberries actually called for a machete. A stick had to suffice as a substitute. With long hiking pants and a long fleece I went off at about 30 °C in the shade, down the slope. The first ferns were quickly overcome, but then a very strenuous and laborious struggle against the thorns began. For the remaining approx. 300 meters beeline I needed 1 h 19 min and "walked" 940 m! It was not only walking, let's better say climbing and falling down. Fortunately I was the first to get the pictures of the exact confluence point. The sign from the visit in 2001 couldn't be found. Judging by the clothing of the visitors from 2001, the thorns could not have been so extreme at that time. Sweaty and totally scratched, especially on hands, forearms and legs, I was back at the car after two hours! Halfway upwards a beautiful panoramic picture arose on which one can see the mountain village Montalbano in the left, on the other side of the valley.

By far this was my most strenuous visit of a confluence point so far! As a reward we visited the beautiful mountain village Librizzi afterwards, only 11 km beeline away towards the north. Later we drove down to the coast for swimming.
