#1: The Confluence from 25 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

14-Oct-2016 -- This is the first out of three reports reaching confluence points on the island of Sardinia.

Thursday after work I took a direct flight from Zurich to Cagliari arriving there at 8 PM. As usual, I had brought my bicycle with me, such that I could directly cycle out of the airport. Even though I had boxed the bicycle, I had to repair the brakes, mudguards and the rear wheel. Outside of the airport I was surprised to be surrounded by warm and humid air. I got the feeling of a tropical night – what a contrast to freezing Zurich!

I cycled southwards for about 30 km and spent the night in a wonderful bed & breakfast place in La Maddalena (20 km north of the confluence point).

It was a stormy night and the next morning not much was left from the promenade. The costal street along the beach had been flooded and was now covered with sand and garbage. But the interior highway was ok for travelling. Actually, I got into the morning rush-hour with heavy traffic coming from Cagliari heading for the industry zone of Sarroch (with oil refineries).

At 8:10 AM I reached the house no. 14 in the street Giuseppe Dessì in the southern part of Pula. I got within 11 m on the public pavement. But when I had just taken the pictures, a friendly inhabitant of the house arrived by bicycle. I explained the project (he didn’t know in what special place he was living) and I was welcome to find my point inside, take all the pictures I needed and even to take a picture with him.

The exact location of the confluence is in the middle of the ramp to the garage, just about 1 m from the wall of the house. The ground cover is concrete. This is why the west view is absolutely featureless.

After the visit, I went through the old town of Pula with the church Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista. Then I began my way northwards…
