#1: The Confluence

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

25-Oct-2008 -- This is the fifth out of nine confluences that I visited during a 3-day trip to Spain. The story starts from 41°N 4°W. After a cold camping night at 41°N 7°W and an early start in the morning (5:30 a.m.) it was a long drive to reach this confluence point.

I parked the car at a distance of 1.1 km – which is not the nearest possible approach by road. The weather called for a hike and I was glad to jump out the car after such a long drive. My hike followed more or less the beeline towards the confluence. It is quite a steep but pleasant diversified hike – coming through forests, agriculture and in the upper part bushes and stone formations.

The whole area of and around the confluence must have experienced a forest fire a couple of months ago. All bushes are burned now. It is interesting to see, how the confluence looked like almost exactly one year ago. During the hike my trousers and shoes became black and after a while almost everything got more or less painted with ashes. This is already my second “burnt” confluence, see the burnt CP in China.

The view from the confluence point is impressive. It is possible to see as far as 50 km into Portugal. To the north side I counted 94 visible wind turbines.
