(visited by Paul Goetti and Peggi Goetti)

16-Jul-2007 -- Coming from 34N/116W in Joshua Tree National Park, our second confluence was situated nicely en route back to Long Beach. We left Interstate 10 at the Calimesa County Line Road exit and drove to the east end of that road. From there we hiked up some trails that clearly show up on Google Earth to a point on a crest 120 meters due west of the CP. So far so good because here was where the fun started. In order to get to the CP we would have to climb down a rather steep grade through bone dry scrub into a gully and up a short distance on the other side. Peggi decided to stay on the crest and wait for me there. I was determined to get those zeros on my GPS and took off for my mission. When I finally got there, it felt like reaching the top of a mountain! I took the required shots and enjoyed the moment before I climbed back up the ravine where my wife was waiting for me. When we got back to our car, we had hiked about 5 km in 35°C (95°F) temperature. We reached our hotel around six in the evening and later celebrated the successful day with a tasty dinner and some good California wine.
