07-Mar-2021 -- This is the second out of 3 confluence visits on our trip from Knysna to Durban in South Africa. The story continues from 33°S 27°E.
This weekend we put all our staff in our rental car and went north-eastwards along the coast. We spent the night from Saturday to Sunday in the very busy mountain city Mthatha. The staff in the guesthouse strongly discouraged us not to walk on the streets even during daylight because we would very likely get robbed. So we cooked our own dinner in the guesthouse.
The next morning, we had an early start at 6:30 AM and continued driving along the N2. In order to reach the confluence, we took an asphalted side road for 6 km and parked in 450 m distance to the confluence. From there, we descended a partially steep hill downwards over an open meadow. We found the confluence at the edge of a little forest with young trees. Next to the confluence is a canyon which is eroding the surrounding meadow. We found various colourful flowers in the meadow at the confluence. With an altitude of exactly 1000 m, we got an additional 3 zeros in the GPS display.
We returned the same way back to our vehicle and continued driving on the N2 until it was time for the next confluence turnoff.
