13-Aug-2017 --In August, we spent a few days in the city of Mendoza, and we took advantage of being here to visit a confluence that in previous analyses was shown as pretty easy to conquer, and really it was.

In the morning we visited San Martin Park, a vast and beautiful green lung just a short distance from the Center, and then crossing the Gran Mendoza zone, by the municipalities of Godoy Cruz and Lujan, until we were approaching the area of the confluence (at about 20 km from city downtown).

We arrived in a neighborhood called Las Compuertas, where the trans-Andean railroad passes. There is a station, now a Museum, called Álvarez Condarco. Follow the path until you find a relief channel for floods. The area is very dry, but the rains tend to generate large floods. We saw several of these channels seeking to lead the devastating force of the water towards the nearby Mendoza River.

Bordering this channel on the right, we followed a dirt road in good condition for about 4 km. Then we waded this channel and took another dirt road, in not so good condition, which after about 3 kilometers let us pass at just 50 metres from the confluence. The point where we crossed the channel (completely dry at the time of our visit) is the only point to take care for the conquest of this Confluence, since in rainy season it can become dangerous.

The vegetation was rather closed and with thorns, so we decided to make the point without putting the GPS in zeroes.

The area of the confluence is on a gently sloping hillside forming a kind of balcony towards the zone of Mendoza River, with some vineyards and the distillery facilities of Luján de Cuyo, one of the largest in Argentina.
