13-Sep-2004 -- Each year during the project we have visited our partner farms in Dornod. This was the first visit since finding out about the Confluence Project. Dornod remained virgin territory and we decided to try to make a start.
We flew from Ulaanbaatar on Monday afternoon and after a field visit we decided to attack CP number one that evening. The point was rather painless, being 30 km away from Choibalsan along the south side of the Kherlen River. Our only concern was that we should not suffer the ignominy of arriving in the dark and having our attempt deemed incomplete (see 49N 92E).
We arrived just about sunset and found that the point lay 200 metres north of the road. Photos were quickly taken and we returned to Choibalsan. One down. Greater plans were being hatched for tomorrow (see 48N 115E).
