(visited by Penko Roussev and Deyana Boneva)

18-Aug-2004 -- Khalkidhikí - After the extreme confluence 40N 21E near Dístraton, Ioánnina we were determined to relax thoroughly at one of the camping places on Sithonía - the second one of the three sleeves on Khalkidhikí. It seemed to us that we had found the paradise.

The day was 16 August, on the beach, near Kalamítsi, with a stunning view of Áthos (the third sleeve), when I looked at the map and saw that the 40N 24E was only 5 km far from us straight-line. I knew that this Confluence was visited once in 2001 but it would be a "crime" to be so near and not to do it.

On the next day we decided to find a boat, we were almost sure that it was on land, but the shortest way to the Confluence seemed to be from the water. We found one fisherman with a boat called Dimitri and with him we made a small trip approaching 40N 24E. It looked beautiful from the boat... We coasted at the closest possible bay when we lost all the photo electronic equipment for some unexplainable reason or just by bad coincidence. Later one Greek friend told us that in the land of Greece there are many places with strong magnetic fields... At least we had a nice cruise.

The next day we decided to walk. Don't do this without firm equipment at least on the whole legs! Severe bushes with thorns like needles will make you feel sorry on the half road. Only the paths of the goats helped us a little, but these labyrinths of paths through the bushes in no way will lead you the confluence point.

It took us two hours to get to the Confluence. The beautiful view from that place makes you forget the heavy road and you feel happy that you can share one of the beautiful places on our planet. We could not stand that view of the water and jumped in...

One more advice to the other visitors – don't forget to take water with you, there you cannot find some at all!
