#1: Confluence point

(visited by Jost Jahn)

16-Apr-2001 -- This is the second confluence point this day (2001-April-16), Easter Monday.

After an Easter visit at my parents I visited at first the CP 54 north 10 east and then - using the germany highway - direct to this CP 53 north 10 east.

After leaving the highway you find the small street to the CP fast. But be aware! If you only take a view at the GPS reading you find that the point must be under a bridge and there is no way to halt. But you must not go through the dark forest. If you come from north, take the last left very small but paved road before the bridge (2nd picture), which runs about a railway track. Don't be panic: Although there is a notice "nur für forstwirtschaftlichen Verkehr" you will not be shot as in other countries...

Then you take again the next right small but paved road and come after some meters throug a small tunnel under the above mentioned railway (3rd picture). If it's rainy, there is some water on the road, but no hole - so you can drive through the water.

After some meters there's a very hard curve and you have the sight of picture 2. Then you stop and take by foot the first forest way. After some meters your GPS reading is bad because high trees and without a 12-channel GPS you may be lost. Because the signal is weak, you don't find your position fast and at first you think you must go into the water rinse. But I found the CP just 1 meter right below the way.

But then I was astonished! Looking around I found another 10 meter (and 2 trees) away a wooden notice "53n 10e confluence point". I was a little bit down, because the last day before Easter no notice was given in pending CPs on the website.

Because the GPS is not so precise I think at the days visit of the former CP's visitors the GPS reading was correct 10 m and 2 trees away.

Also it get dark, I made a photo of the GPS (nr. 4) and a small panorama from the way (showing both CP locations) and a big panorama from "my" CP view. The colors of the small panorama are better then those of the big one.

I hope you enjoy the photos. If you are hungry after visiting this CP you may take a rest at the other side of the bridge at a small restaurant.

Back at home today I noticed that the former visit by "ray" was made at April 12, only 4 days before my visit. Unfortunately this CP is just 50 km away from my home and I could have driven there long time ago. But this is the life of all CP visitors...
