After a preliminary visit to 44N-114W earlier in the day we continued north following the very scenic serpentine path along on the east side of the Salmon River on US-93 towards Salmon until turning west onto Williams Creek Road (NF-021) and finally being able to cross the Salmon River at Shoup Bridge. We continued back south along Williams Lake Road and parked in a pull out on the side of the road where we offloaded my RZR.
This entire trip in the Salmon-Challis National Forest would be possible in almost any vehicle you wouldn’t mind taking on a well maintained dirt road but pulling a trailer would not be nearly as fun as driving the RZR. At some point, Williams Lake Road is renamed NF-028 which is another scenic road that took us around the north end of Williams Lake before continuing west and then south increasing in elevation until the actual confluence located on the west side of the road on an uphill gradient across a southwest facing slope.
We stopped and set up the Trimble, sent a SPOT message, took our pictures, and ate lunch with a cold confluence BEvERage. We were becoming increasingly concerned with the increasing smoke, haze, and high clouds from several large fires hundreds of miles away in Montana and Washington and what that might mean for tomorrow morning and our planned viewing of the Solar Eclipse.

Post processing of the GPS data (690 positions) reveals that my Trimble GPS receiver was 1.6 meters west of the actual confluence with a Horizontal Precision of 2.0 meters.
Total time off US-93 was 3+08. The total round trip distance was 31 miles, 17 of those were driving the RZR.
The next day we would return to 44N-114W to observe the Solar Eclipse!!
