20-Oct-2012 -- I spent a weekend in Saarbrücken and I could visit this confluence point in the French region Lorraine on Saturday afternoon and the confluence point 49N 8E in the region Alsace on Sunday afternoon. I choose the coordinates of the confluence point as destination in my car navigation device and headed westward on Saturday afternoon. As I excluded motorways, the navigation device led me through the Warndt region, a forestal area on both sides of the German-French border, and then led me on country roads directly into the city center of Metz, the capital of the region Lorraine.

I had to go another 20 km and after having fought my way through the traffic in Metz I continued my way on country roads to Corny-sur-Moselle where I passed the river Moselle. Then I passed the border between the French departments Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle between the country towns Noveant-sur-Moselle and Arnaville (between 1871 and 1918 this border used to be the border between France and Germany). A few minutes later I came to Bayonville-sur-Mad and approximately 800 m behind the entrance to Bayonville I turned to the left into the Rue des Roches on the left side, but this road ended after about 300 m at a saw mill, only 1500 m away from the confluence point. Thereupon I decided to approach the confluence point from the south and I took trhe Rue Gambetta in Pagny-sur-Moselle as a starting point, the same starting point that Florian Schindler took in June 2010.

The Rue Gambetta starts in the Moselle valley at a height of 190 m, ends as a dead end at a height of 230 m and turns into an unpaved way that is closed for traffic. This way is going steep uphill and forks after about 200 m. The left way leads after 450 m to an observation point at a height of 320 m where you have a great view on Pagny and the Moselle valley. Immediately after this viewing point the first way on the right side leads after 1000 m to the confluence point at a heigt of 360 m.

The picture of the confluence point shows in its centre a water drain pipe passing under the way. The confluence point can be found 2 m west of this drain pipe in a beech forest. The pictures showing the view to the south and the north are taken on the way passing the confluence point (the way is not exactly in north-south direction but rather in northwest-south-east direction). After having spent 20 min at the confluence point I went back to my car reached it 90 min after I had parked it in the Rue Gambetta. To avoid the traffic in the city centre of Metz I choose a motorway passing Metz in the south and reached Saarbrücken at 7 pm.
