28-Jul-2012 -- My trip to this confluence point started on a Tuesday morning at 8:30 at Cologne Central Station with a train to Wesel. After 90 minutes I arrived in Wesel and took another train to Bocholt. Without any delay I could get there the bus to Coesfeld. I took this bus to the bus station Fabrikstraße in Gescher, approximately 5 km away from the confluence point.

Starting in Gescher I headed north and walked about 5 km through the Münsterland passing many maize fields and wheat fields. The countryside is dominated by many farm houses that are scattered across the area, a so-called Bauerschaft, and it seems that the house numbers are distributed randomly. After about 2 hours walking through the Bauerschaft Estern I was less than 200 m away from the confluence point. I stood on the Russenstraße at a street sign indicating the Bauerschaft Almsick and according to the topographic map on my GPS device there should be a path heading north into a wooded area. This path was hardly recognizable as a path and could only be identified as a path by deep tire tracks of tractors. I followed this path for about 200 meters into the woods until I reached 52 N and saw there a smaller path leading westward that could have lead me on a direct way to the confluence point that was about 60 m away. The weather was very sunny on that day and temperatures on that day were about 25°C but the puddles in the tractor tracks showed that there must have been heavy rains the days before. Some of these puddles were quite deep and after about 20 m on this way one of my feet stuck in the mud up to the ankles and I took two decisions: First I decided to go back to the path I came from and second I decided to take some rubber boots the next time I visit another confluence point in a wooded area.

So I went back to the path leading to the north and went further on north and I approached the confluence point from northeast through a forest which no longer reminded me of a swamp. The conditions for the GPS signal were not ideal due to the dense trees and so I gained an accuracy of 10 m. After about an hour in the forest I went to the next bus station in Breul, a district of the city of Stadtlohn, Walking alongside a country road. About 1 km before the entrance of Breul I passed a memorial built by the Schützenverein Estern (voluntary association featuring sport-shooting) reminding the soldiers killed in action during the world wars. After approximately 12 km walk I arrived at the bus station in Breul and took a bus to the train station Coesfeld where I entered a train to Dülmen. In these trains of the Westmünsterland line the stop announcements are also given in Dutch. After half an hour in Dülmen I took a traijn Duisburg and there another train to Cologne where I where I arrived in the early evening.
