15-Oct-2011 -- In order to celebrate the confluence project 15th anniversary, I wanted to make a special point. According to the previous visits, this point seemed to be quite a challenging one: Around 2600m elevation, with a demanding hike. I prepared it with the excellent swiss maps (see picture) and decided to start early in the morning.

I parked in the small hamlet of "Mondelli" in Macugnaga valley, and started to climb the path toward the "Mondelli pass", on the italian-swiss border. The path is quite easy to follow. It goes through several nice alpine villages (Alpe cortevecchio and Predenon) and there are painted red and white marks to follow. Despite the very foggy weather, I did not get lost! I was even surprised to reach the clouds limit at around 2100m, just before the point, and enjoy a very sunny and clear sky.

The point is just 50m far from the path. The terrain gets rocky, but there is no danger at all. After the traditional GPS device picture, I had enough time and decided to reach the Mondelli pass just 300m above to have a quick look toward the swiss side. This additional effort has been rewarded with an amazing view on the Strahlhorn and its glacier, and the Monte Rosa. I ran back down for the way back - I already knew the track, and the weather was perfectly clear, till Mondelli downtown. So, as a conclusion: Happy birthday Confluence project!
