(visited by Peter Franken, Kim and Bianca)

17-Jul-2008 --

In July 2008 my wife Bianca, my daughter Kim and myself, Peter went over to the other side of the Atlantic for a holiday in US Florida. We live in The Netherlands, so it was quite a journey of 9 hours in a plane.

Our first stop from landing in Miami took us to Naples for a stay in an extremely luxurious suite of the Bellasera hotel. After three nights there we drove up the coast towards our next hotel in Longboat Key Sarasota. Along the way we visited the lovely beach of Lovers Key. To make some speed we drove north on the I75. Along the way we passed so close to the confluence at 27 degree North 82 degrees West that I just had to make a quick stop at it. It's only a 5 minute drive from the interstate.

I stopped on the road in front of the house in which garden the confluence is located. Planning to stay only there and make a few shots as close as I could. But as soon as I got out the owners of the house came outside. So I said to them "Yes, I'm one of 'those' idiots. They were very friendly and allowed me and my family to enter their garden and take a few pictures. They had been living there for more than 18 years if I remember correctly and remembered having been visited by 6 or 7 earlier confluence hunters. Most of them had been from the UK, we were the first Dutch people that they knew of.

They confluence point was somewhere near the small tree that they had planted. And indeed, my TomTom device brought me to within 2 metres of that tree. This is my first confluence ever and I was very thrilled to see the exact point appear in the dispay of the device. I cannot say that I will be starting daytrips to visit confluence points near home, but whenever I get near one again I will for sure try to make a visit again.

We soon started talking abut something completely different, the scrub jays and the squirrels that were in their garden and were tame enough to try and come and eat out f your hands. So we spent almost half an hour just chatting with them about these animals, what The Netherlands were like, how living there was some much different from living in the US and what we were going to o on our holiday. We had a great time.

The rest of our holiday was also fantastic. Great hotels and villa and tons of fun at the beaches, the theme parks and for me personally especially Cape Kennedy.
