#1: THE POINT

(visited by christoph van daele and Christiaen Rodenhauser)

22-Oct-2006 -- >On Sunday 22/10 we jumped in our car at 7h00 full of enthusiasm and left from Cumarebo, Falcón direction Valencia to add another point to our victory list of confluence discoveries.
After reading the comments of other attempts we decided to try to reach the point from the west. So we took the national road that leads to Jurabe and wanted to drive north again in search of the closed west entree. But after one hour driving we encountered an unforeseen breech in the road. And as we didn’t have 4x4 vehicle but just a small “gran” vitara we were obliged to leave the car on the road and continue by foot trying to make an approach to the point from the east at 3,7km from the confluence point.
We knew it would be difficult from a certain point because of the comments we read. At the beginning everything went well the dirt track we found appeared to be going the correct direction for about 2,5 km and then just stopped. From there on we had to hack a way through the very dense vegetation with the machete. But with a lot of blood, sweat and tears we finally arrived at our destination at 11h07. POINT 11N69W.

As always we made our victory dance and then took a siesta before hiking back. Just before the point we found a cattle track that apparently would lead us to the west side, first we thought to return to the car on the road but quickly changed idea and backtracked the way we came when it complete went the wrong direction.
