A great point which is worth two visits

Bornholm is a large island located at eastern end of Denmark and requires going through southern end of Sweden to catch a ferry to get there. Our hosts, Birgitte and Morten are natives of Bornholm even though they now residing in Copenhagen, they each has a summer home on this beautiful island. Birgitte’s summer cottage is located at northern end of the island and Morten’s summer home is located at southern end about 3.8 km from this confluence point.

After two days staying at Birgitte’s place we went around the island to Morten’s place for another two days.

Upon arriving Morten’s summer home Ray decided to go for a run to the confluence point. It took about 5 k to reach this well marked confluence point which is only 200 meters from the Baltic Sea with a Café nearby. I took a different route back and this was one of the better 10 K runs I had done in a while.

Next day all four of us rode bicycle to the confluence point and explore the surrounding area and all had a hot chocolate at the Pure Rainforest Chocolate Café. The reason this café is named rainforest has to do with the fact that the owner spend other half of the year in Fiji and engaged in coca harvesting.

For the two natives of Bornholm, Birgitte and Morten, this was their first hunt of a confluence point and fittingly it is the only point on the island. For Ray, the seasoned line-hunter, this was well worth the double visit – once by foot and once by bike.

This particular confluence point has a cement marker on the ground marking the exact location of the all zero points. Also there is a wooden post sign next to it detailing the significance of latitude 55 degree north and longitude 15 degree east. One cannot ask for an easier and better marked confluence point than this one.

Rating of this hunt:

Degree of Challenge: 1 – Very near a main road and located next to a cafe (1= very easy - drive to the point; to 5= a death march – glad it is over)

Scenery: 4– A beautiful point with view of the ocean and surrounded by wild flowers (Scale: 1= not interesting at all; 5= take your breath away)

Culture-social factors: 4– Boneholm is a charming and tranquil island, the Danish country side at its best (Scale: 1=dull; 5= most stimulating)
