03-Aug-2014 -- The confluence point 42N 9E is located in the mountains of the beautiful island Corsica, which is associated to France. The CP is on a height of about 950 m, in a distance of about 4 km beeline from the village Bastelica. This beautiful place is a hotspot for hikers with many guest houses, some hotels and taverns.
After reaching Bastelica, coming from southwest and passing the main crossing with the church next to it, the street goes uphill, passes a cemetery in the west of the village and leads to a junction after about 1.7 km. This goes down too steep for a normal car. So I parked the car and my walk started here, 5.3 km away from the CP 42N 9E.
I crossed a small bridge, came along on a fence with young, special Corsican pigs. The unpaved path ends suddenly at a closed gate. From now on it became a hiking path which was marked with a yellow stripe on some big stones. The markers were set at quite large distances so that I was happy to find it again, especially if there were different possible ways.
Once it leads inside a creek, two times it crossed creeks. Quite in the middle of the way I was frightened by two donkeys. They had no marks, brandings, harnesses or anything else on them. Maybe they were wild ones. Then the trees granted a great view to the east to the southern part of Bastelica at a distance of 2.4 km.
After about two thirds of the way the wood vanished and only the rough macchia, typical on Corsica, was growing. In this area I heard a raucous grunt from time to time directly next to me, but the pigs stayed invisible. Two shortly new raised hides were installed at a mountain crest and rolls of wire fence lay on the ground next to them.
After a hike of about 1.5 hours the confluence point 42N 9E was reached. The mentioned path passes the CP at a distance of just two meters! The path leads further west, it was not registered on my OSM. Direct at the CP grows a broom bush in which I placed the GPS for the picture. On my way back I offered rusk to the donkeys, both hesitated but ate it in the end.
This visit, with a hard hike under high temperatures, was the last one during this holidays but my first one in France.
