#1: View North

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

22-Oct-2016 -- I had spent the night in Yuma, Arizona, in preparation for my planned attempt to visit 33N 114W later in the day. I decided to get up early in the morning to make a quick visit to this neighboring Degree Confluence Point - that I had first visited almost 9 years ago, in November 2007. Surprisingly, there had been only one other visit in-between (Joseph Kerski’s visit in August 2009).

As with my previous visit, I turned off highway 78 at 33.01497°N 115.00643°W, where there’s a series of 4WD dirt roads running through the sandy desert terrain. (On the opposite side of highway 78 is the massive Mesquite Mine - one of the nation’s largest gold mines.) By taking some of these 4WD dirt roads, I was able to drive to just about 250 feet north of the point.

The point looks just the same as before; it’s in sandy terrain, just south of a large (creosote?) bush. A small rock cairn (grumble...) left by a previous visitor marks the point.

Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
