17-Nov-2001 -- Mulwala, NSW

Continued from 35°S 146°E.

We drove to Jerilderee via Tyarcumbuggerema and proceeded on to Berrigan and then on to Mulwala. A few kilometres south of Berrigan, I wasn’t paying attention and found myself heading east on the Riverina Highway instead of south on the road to Mulwala. This probably added about 20 minutes to this leg of the journey and meant we had to take a dirt road from Savernake to Mulwala.

As previously documented by Keith and Loreen Campbell, this confluence is located at some sort of holiday accommodation. Keith and Loreen had concluded that the exact confluence point was in the doorway of one of the rooms, so we thought it would be a nice idea to get some photos right inside one of the units, particularly if we could get the GPS to come up all zero indoors (provided we could get enough signal through the windows).

The complex seems to be a mixture of holiday apartments and timeshare units and didn’t seem to have a reception on site – so I wasn’t able to enquire about getting a look inside. There was a notice with a mobile phone number to call for accommodation enquiries.

After walking around the general area for a few minutes, the GPS was giving quite inconsistent output, presumable as the number of satellites in view reduced when we were close to the building, and also possibly affected by the power lines directly above the confluence. I managed to get the GPS to come up all zeros in about four different places in the grassed area next to the back patio of one of the units.

So we now have four down and one to go for the day – on to 37°S 146°E.
