09-Jun-2012 -- This narrative continues from 15S 41W.

After visiting 15S 41W confluence, a bit before Vitória da Conquista city, I headed by south of Bahia state, passing by Vitória da Conquista, Poções, Manoel Vitorino and Jequié cities. I passed also by the first three tolls of the trip.

I passed by Jequié a bit after 4:00 PM, and I thought that it was too early to finish the second day of the trip. Then, I went ahead. I was a bit more than 100 kilometers to the second confluence of the trip, 13S 40W, near Nova Itarana small city. My intention was to visit this confluence still in this day and went up to Feira de Santana city. However, when arriving at confluence region, I realized that there wasn’t enough light to register the visit. In the other hand, if I decide to go ahead to Feira de Santana, I would lose the confluence visit. Then, I had to spend the night at Nova Itarana.

There was only one inn in the city, and there wasn’t any restaurant. Then, I couldn't have dinner, I had to make only one snack at the evening. In long travels, I usually don’t have lunch, only take a snack, in order to avoid get very tired at the afternoon, and I have a dinner at the end of the day. But, in this day, I couldn’t do this.

In the city my mobile operator didn’t work. The city has only two public telephones, but both are defective. I must ask by a local resident to lend me his mobile in order to call to my wife.

And, to complete, the shower didn’t work, too. I could reclaim, ask to change the room, but the climate was hot and I hadn’t any problem to make a cold shower.

The second day of the trip yielded much more than the first one. From Governador Valadares to Nova Itarana I travelled 824 kilometers, the greatest amount of all four days. Summing the two first days, I completed 1,147 kilometers, a bit less than the half of the total distance.

The following day, third day of the trip, I woke up very early again and went straight to the confluence visit. I left Nova Itarana, caught the access road to BR-116 highway, followed some kilometers up to a dirt road at the left side, in good conditions, as in the previous confluence. I followed this road by a bit more than three kilometers and stopped the car 133 meters to the exact point, which lies in a brushwood area, and very dry vegetation. I crossed a barbed wire fence and hiked up to get all GPS zeroes.

The confluence visit occurred at the kilometer 1,161 of the trip.

After visiting the point, I turned back up to BR-116 highway and went ahead. This narrative continues on 12S39W visit.
