A região no entorno desta confluência possui algumas atrações ecoturísticas.

15-Sep-2012 -- We conquered the confluence 11S 41W on Saturday, 15 September 2012 at 1:20 pm.

The State of Bahia has regions with low population density and with few paved roads. Maybe this is why there are still many confluences which have not yet been visited. As we live in the city of Salvador, capital of Bahia State, we decided to make an expedition to conquer the confluences 11S 41W; 11S 42W and 11S 43W. This paper reports the first achievement of this expedition.

On 15 September 2012 we left the house at 7:00 in the morning with destination the city of Jacobina, Bahia, which is 345 km from the capital of Bahia. Arriving in Jacobina, we catered the bikes and followed the State Highway BA-368 and, a few miles before reaching the town of Ourolândia, we accessed to the left (SW) an unpaved service road that we followed more than 6 km until a barbed wire fence that prevented the access to the confluence. We parked the bikes and were looking for someone to request authorization to enter the farm. As we didn't find anybody, we jumped the fence and followed on foot for over 900 m until the first confluence achievement of this expedition.

The confluence 11S 41W is located in the Piedmont region called the Chapada Diamantina, in the midst of caatinga (from tupi: ka'a [kill] + tinga [White] = white forest), which is the only exclusively Brazilian biome and cannot be found anywhere else on the planet.

The region around this Confluence has some touristic attractions. The main natural attractions of the region are the "Dripping", a place for bathing in thermal waters which is 6 km from the seat of the municipality of Ourolândia. Another very interesting place is the "Toca dos Ossos", that offers several miles of caves, where have been found several dinosaur fossils that are now exposed in the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro. Yet amid the caatinga lies the "Poço Verde" with its transparent waters.

Access to the confluence 11S 41W is easy and can be done by ordinary vehicles, without the need for special equipment or clothing. Due to the arid climate of the region, we recommend taking water and sunscreen.

After registering the conquest with pictures, we went to the city of Brockville where we had lunch and then we set off towards the city of Xique-Xique, where we passed the night for the next day to conquer the confluence 11S 43W.
