(visited by Ross Finlayson)

22-Mar-2013 -- This was one of those confluence visits where the drive to get to the point was far more interesting than the confluence point itself. From the small town of Shelley, south of Idaho Falls, I took a series of paved rural roads, and then several long, scenic gravel roads - Wolverine Creek Road, Cedar Creek Road, Blackfoot River Road, Trail Creek Road, and finally Portneuf River Road - that circumvented the several ravines and 'badlands' that lie in this area. There is open range cattle ranching in this area; several times, I was forced to slow to a crawl as I passed cattle (usually including several recently-born calves). So, a warning to anyone else who visits this confluence point: Watch out for cattle!

Portneuf River Road took me just 0.3 miles from the confluence point, which lies (like so many western U.S. confluence points) amid sagebrush. The point itself sits on an old road cut.
