#1: The confluence lies 20 feet from the right bank in this lake.

(visited by Jack Frickey and Cheryl Corrigan)

24-Oct-2004 -- Cheryl and I had spent the weekend at a square dance festival in Bennington, VT and were taking a GPSing and sight seeing route back home to Virginia. After poking around Saratoga Springs, NY for a bit, we headed for the confluence at 43N 74W. We found the confluence about 90 yards north of Crane Road just southeast of Galway, NY. It is near the edge of the small lake shown in photo #1. Interestingly, the two previous visitors recorded zero readings a few feet from the edge of the lake on dry land. During our visit the alignment of the satellites put the zero point about 20 feet from the bank in the water. I guess that’s within the theoretical accuracy of the GPS system. Photo #3 looking west shows my GPSr on the rock beside the lake and the confluence 20 feet beyond. Photo #2 shows the path leading north along the east side of the lake. The large smiley face mentioned in earlier reports was still there (photo #6) to greet confluence visitors, albeit a bit weathered. The day was wearing on and we had a couple nearby geodashing dashpoints to reach, hopefully before all vestiges of daylight were gone, so after all photos were taken we returned to Maggie (my 1988 Mazda visible in photo #5 looking south) to continue our adventure.
