31-Mar-2004 -- The company I work for has recently obtained GPS devices for field activities. Soon afterwards, a colleague from Beograd has phoned me and proposed to visit the spot with the coordinates N44 E22 as it is in the vicinity of the village where our company carries out its development activities. He has also informed me about Internet site where people report their visits of the spots on the Earth with whole number coordinates. I have visited the site and found out that there really is a spot very near to the town I work in and that there are also few more such (already visited) spots in my country. OK, I thought, I would do it some time in future - I would take photos of the spot. And that was it. I simply did not have enough time to do such a thing.

On March 31st a colleague from my company and me were assigned to visit the village in the very vicinity of the spot which is the topic to this story. I thought we might go there and take a few photos of it then. On our way there I informed him about the idea and he proposed to go there next week when we had more spare time. I agreed and we did not mention the issue any more. However, we completed our activities earlier and he surprised me with a proposal to visit the spot immediately. Thus our mini-adventure started.

The spot is some 1200 m away from the main road towards the village of Zlot. We first found the place from where the distance increases if you take the main road. The main road goes east-west at that section and we should head towards south. On our right there were fields only without any road, so, for a moment, I thought of giving up the whole idea since we should walk some 1200 m through fields and mud and we were not ready for something like that. Suddenly, we noticed a dirt road on our right. I proposed to my colleague to take that road for about 100 m just to see whether we would get closer to the spot. It turned out that not only the road went south but it also took us directly to the spot itself.

Our excitement raised with each meter taken. The road got narrower and more winding but its main direction still led towards the spot. Suddenly, the road ended. There was nothing ahead except fields. GPS device showed that there were about 200 more meters to the spot. We looked at each other for a moment and then my colleague stepped on the gas and drove over the fields. This time we oriented ourselves according to the device only. When we finally stopped the distance was reduced to some 60 m. We could not continue by car as there was a wooded hill before us.

We walked up the hill and in 5 minutes everything was over. The spot was at that hill, somewhat below its peak and surrounded by deciduous trees and low vegetation. As it was end of March, the wood was still without any leaves so that we could only take photos of barren branches at all four sides of the world.

We spent some ten minutes at the spot taking photos of it and us. Of course, we congratulated each other and shared our moment of glory. I asked my colleague how he felt now when he became a world star and then we burst into sincere laughter.
