10-Jan-2004 -- I was travelling in BR101 and noticed that confluence 19S 40W was very close, less than 500 meters. I stopped my car on the side of the road and started to search a way to get there.

The 19S 40S is located very close to the border of Sooretama Ecological Reserve, it is in the middle of the Rain Forest and I was concerned about satellite reception. I walked along the side of the BR101 Road and found a small unpaved service road that entered into the forest.

I prepared my GPS receptor, my camera and some bug protection and entered the forest following the service road. For my surprise it runs very close to the paralel 19S, and in few minutes I reached the coordinate 40W, where I still had some satellite reception. But the exact 19S 40 W was in the middle of the Forest, 40 meters of the service road.

When I got to the point, there was no satellite reception and I returned to the closest point where I could get some signal. There I registered the conluence as 18º59'58,2"S 40º00'00,3" W.
