#1: The confluence place

(visited by Lis Maria Rabaco / Endre De Gyalokay)

06-Sep-2003 -- We left Petropolis early in order to find the confluence 23 S, 45W located near the road between Cunha e Guaratingueta (SP). From data coming from others travels, between Parati e Cunha, we have found this confluence near the entrance to Paraitinga. Guaratingueta is a city near BR-116.

We approached to Paraitinga exit, and before 200 meters, we stopped in the road, and searched the IBGE maps in scale 1:250.000 of the Volta Redonda, Ilha Grande and Guaratingueta. In these maps the confluence is located near Brejauba.

As we were coming from Guaratingueta, we turn left 200 meters before the entrance to Paraitinga. The exit to Paraitinga is in the right side of the road. We asked the people in a bus stop about Brejauba. The people told that the best exit to go to this Farm was turn left from the main road 3 km ahead, going to Cunha. We returned to main road. After we have crossed the bridge above Paraitinga river, 3 km ahead we turn left, and we crossed the the places named Sape, Pedreira. In Pedreira where is a big football field, we turn left to Paineiras instead of Breajuba. We saw the road to Brejauba Farm out of our course.

In Paineiras we stopped the car near a small river. We were around 500 meters from confluence. We drove almost 5 km from the main road to arrive here. We crossed the river by foot and start walk up to the top of small hill. From the top we understood why the Farm is called Paineiras (a tree). It is because the only remainder of native forest exists in hills around!

The confluence was located in the next hill, and we walked in contours in order to reach it.

The confluence is located 30 meters from the crest, connecting two small hills, near of the foot path. We took some pictures and returned to car.

After we left Cunha and we went to Passa Quatro(MG).
