19-Feb-2001 -- I left bright and early this morning with the intention of photographing two or three confluences today. I got on the Natchez Trace Parkway for the first leg of the trip. There's some beautiful scenery and if you ever get the chance to drive on the Trace, you should take it.

Someone whose car had broken down blocked the little road that got me closest to the confluence. About the time I stopped to ask if there was anything I could do to help, the guy said his father just drove by and would I go catch him. That sounded like fun, so I took off after the guy's father. I brought him back to his son's broken down car and decided there was nothing I could do, so I cleared away some brush and drove around him.

I drove as close as I could and hoofed it toward the confluence. Only to find out that I was on this point that had a steep bluff and there was no way I was going to get down it unless I did some serious climbing. Well, I'm not in the best shape and I didn't want to get dirty or die or anything like that, so I decided to find an alternate route.

The closest I could drive to it was the parking lot of a nightclub called "Showgirls Cabaret." I decided I had better act like I was supposed to be there. There was a guy cleaning up and I told him I needed to park here so I could walk back behind his place and take pictures of a survey point. I took off and about 10 minutes later I had located the spot. I took my pictures and headed back. The guy had backed his truck up to the front door of the strip club and was loading it up with empty liquor cases, bottles, cans, etc. I told him a little more about what I was doing and asked if I could take his picture. Thanks, Jermond.

It was a beautiful day and I was feeling fine -- I headed toward the next confluence about 90 miles away.
