14-May-2001 -- After leaving the German army my dad said he would like to take me on some trip to celebrate this next step in my (young?) life. We preferred Italy to Greece for the distance.

I had heard about the Degree Confluence Project some months ago but could not yet visit any myself, since I still lacked a GPS receiver. I only accompanied Ray to 53N 10E.

But this trip should not be one of these sightseeing tours I had in my early childhood. I thought the Degree Confluence Project could bring the amount of pepper in there. So I borrowed a Garmin from Ray and a digicam from another friend - and we moved on. I even had downloaded all interesting points via mapquest, but somewhere at the Italian border I saw that I forgot to transfer them on my Laptop. But our car was equipped with a map of Europe (1:4,600,000)... only every 5 degrees a line. This was why we visited the 45N 10E first.

Leaving Salo after 2 relaxed days we headed towards Piacenza to find our first confluence. My dad always smiled about my fascination for geographical points earning nothing but the "first visit" entry at some page on the internet.

Anyway, the 45N 10E was a very easy one, we drove almost exactly to the point, just 300 metres by foot onto an abandoned field.

(If you want to have a look at my other confluences of that trip, remember the nice smile my father shows... now ;)
