22-Sep-2026 -- Because of two days of forecast heavy rain, I gave up my idea of attempting to visit four ‘forgotten’ Degree Confluence Points in central Virginia. Instead, I tried to escape the worst of the wet weather by driving to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I noticed, however, that my route would take me through High Point, North Carolina, which I remember as being the site of a Degree Confluence Point - in the grounds of a condo complex - that I had previously visited in April 2011. I decided to revisit it, to get a ‘drone’s-eye’ view.
The point was almost the way that I had remembered it, except that in 2011 it was in long grass (next to a dead log). Now it’s in the middle of a large patch of ivy (fortunately, not poison ivy). Because of the heavy overcast conditions, my ground-level photos this time were not particularly good, nor were my overhead drone photos. But here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
