#1: The confluence point

(visited by Ashley Watson)

08-Sep-2026 -- I was on a road trip up to Queensland and decided to break up the long drive by visiting this quick n easy confluence near Trangie. I turned off the highway and on to the Trangie Collie Road then, after 4-5km, swung left on to unsealed Foremans Lane. Immediately on the right there was an abandoned squatter camp (old bus, car and other junk) and then just a couple of hundred metres further on, a rough farm track heading off to the left where a mob of several hundred cattle were grazing in the general direction of the confluence. I paused for consideration at this point, not wanting to disturb livestock nor upset a farmer. But having read a previous visitor's report indicating that this was a Travelling Stock Reserve (or just Crown Land, as I later found out), I reckoned that it would be okay to proceed. After another couple of hundred metres along this track I pulled over under a grove of trees, pleased to see that there were no cattle between me and the actual confluence spot. A short stroll and I was there. Zeros done and photos taken ー with the only feature of note in the surrounding landscape (and also previously observed) being a nice pair of trees close by to the north (later identified as 'poplar box' by my mate Hilton). Meanwhile, a crowd of onlookers had gathered between me and the car: the mob of cattle! With no way back but straight ahead, I made my way through the mob like the parting of the Red Sea, the inquisitive beasts all retreating and turning around as I went. With just a little trepidation, mission accomplished.
