06-Apr-2026 -- From Show Low, Arizona, I drove eastward through the small town of St Johns, then continued across the New Mexico state line into the Zuni Reservation. I stopped briefly at the gated road that leads to [35,-109], and confirmed that it’s still signed “No Trespassing”. That point will have to wait for some other day.
After driving through the El Morro and El Malpais National Monuments, I turned off the highway onto a dirt road at [34.9816813,-108.0127639] - the same access point used by the previous visitor: Shawn Fleming (almost 10 years ago). This is just 1.4 miles ‘as the crow flies’ from the Degree Confluence Point (and about 400 feet lower in elevation). I parked here and continued up the dirt road on my mountain bike. (The loose rocks and sand on this road made cycling non-trivial.) On the way I passed the site of some old mines. After a ride of 1.8 miles, I ended up just 0.1 miles from the point. I stashed my bike here, and hiked the rest of the way to the point, which lies on a forested west-facing slope, next to a small drainage.
Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
After returning to my car, I made a quick visit to the Bandera Volcano and Ice Cave - just a few miles to the west.
