05-Aug-2022 – After the confluence point 50°N 60°E I once again returned to the E38 highway, only drove east very close, about 6 km. Here the road forks: the A22 highway goes north to Kustanai and Astana, while the E38 continues south to Kyzyl-Orda and Shimkent.

I drove to the city of Aralsk and spent the night there in a hotel, so that the next day I could conquer the most mysterious confluence on this journey. The city of Aralsk was once a port on the Aral Sea, and the confluence point that I have planned was probably not far from the sea before. And now, considering satellite views, I did not really understand where it was located: either on a stone plateau, or in a swamp. Finding a route to it was a problem. Google completely refused to navigate there, hinting that there were no roads to the west of the highway. But Yandex allowed to go in the right direction and found a passage in a rather intricate network of roads and canals. The network of field roads is arranged in such a way that the roads scatter across the steppe, and then gather into nodes, where they cross canals. Therefore, I stored in advance the path laid by Yandex, realizing that it is hardly worth relying on mobile Internet. This path was very useful to me, because without it you can stray for a long time, as I was convinced on the way back.

In the place where, according to the navigator, I had to turn off the road, there was a young guy who had just arrived here in an old Lada and unloaded melons for trading. I moved across the steppe in abundant but low thickets. From time to time I drove past small farm or shepherd buildings and barbed-wire vegetable gardens with marrows and melons. Finally, after the last tiny building, the thickets abruptly ended, and in front of me stretched almost deserted landscape.

This day, unlike all the previous ones, was overcast, especially in the morning, and it was clearly raining in the direction I was driving. And so I was driving along a deserted steppe road. To the left was a plain, covered with little undergrowth, going down a little. To the right is the hill. The road ran along the edge of this hill. The road was wet and sandy. The wheels left a trail several centimeters deep. I thought that if it still rained, then I would no longer be able to leave along it. But, fortunately for me, the weather improved. The clouds were leaving me. Finally, I arrived at the place where I had to go up to the hill, where the CP 46°N 62°E should be located. There was something weird underfoot. I would call it a clay desert. Climbing up the plateau, I headed towards my goal. The views in all directions were pretty uniform. No noteworthy landmarks. Although there was a ravine literally a hundred meters away, along which I then went back to the car, but it is not visible from the CP.

The confluence is located on a plateau, among a clayey desert with almost no vegetation, in the southeast of the central part of the Aral district of the Kyzylorda region.

On the way back, once in the network of roads and canals, I still got a little lost. The main road E38 was visible on the horizon, but it was not possible to get there immediately. When I returned to the track, it was already +33°C, the clouds had disappeared. I bought a melon from a boy who sells melons for a bite to eat and will continue on to 45°N 65°E.
