23-May-2022 --

23-May-2022 -

This adventure starts in Medellín, where I took a plane to Bogotá to meet my son, Juan Sebastián and my friend Javier Buitrago. We then drive to Villavicencio, the gate to the Easter Plains region. There, our car malfunctions and we are forced to replace its battery, losing more than 2 hours from the schedule.

At dusk, we arrived to Puerto Lleras, a small river town 140 km away. We slept in a small hotel, bought some groceries and kept driving south, on the road to San José del Guaviare. After 76 km we left the main road, trying to get closer to the confluence using an unpaved private road. The GPS indicates that we are 2.5 away from our target, but we found a closed gated. Luckily, after some minutes, the plantation manager, Diego Mauricio Morales, came driving a pickup truck. We told him the objective of the trip and we handed the presentation letters from the confluence project and he, very kindly, opens the gates for us and guide us to the plantation’s only building, very close to the confluence.

We parked and started walking guided by the GPS, it shows that we’re about 300m from the goal. It was a sunny day and pretty soon we arrived to the confluence, where we cheer, proud of reaching one more. We took the pictures and celebrate. The confluence is located in an oil palm plantation, only 242 above sea level. After a short brake, we left the premises and resumed our trip to San José, where we could enjoy several amazing beautiful landscapes of this beautiful country: Colombia.
