There are two confluence points that I can reach from my home in a day trip by bike: this one and the one at 52°N 7°E. After visiting the latter two years ago with a friend, today it was the turn of the more southern one.

In order to be able to cope with the journey by bike at all, I chose a distance-optimized route, which then - except the beautiful forest areas in Mülheim and Duisburg - offered little scenic charm as expected. But to my surprise the area became increasingly attractive as I approached the region with the confluence point: a delightful mixture of forest groves and cornfields - and that with a bright blue sky.

After 79 kilometers I reached the place of my desire, a harvested cornfield on which some straw bales were still stored. (Good thing I got here after the mowing, otherwise I might not have been able to reach the point of confluence!) From the northeast corner I cycled on a narrow path to the south, where I met a paved road that brought me to the southwest corner of the field and thus near the point of confluence.

The confluence point is about 30 meters from the southwest corner of the field, near a strip of forest that separates the field from the nearby railroad tracks. The field is almost level, I couldn't see which grain had been harvested here. My GPS receiver displayed an altitude of 48 m. After I managed to get to the exact position and take my photos, I continued the bike tour to Cologne Cathedral.

Photos of the tour I published here on Komoot.
