#1: The confluence point lies on a sandy rural road, that runs West-to-East

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

09-May-2021 -- Yet another revisit - this time to a Degree Confluence Point that happens to lie on a rural dirt road - that runs West-East along the 44 Degrees North line of latitude. I had previously visited this point almost 8 years ago. I had forgotten just how sandy this area is. Loose sand covers much of the road, and a large series of sand dunes (the St. Anthony Dunes) lies to the South-Southeast. After photographing the point, I flew my drone to these dunes and back.

After leaving the point, I took what I thought would be a shortcut to get to my next destination (West Yellowstone, Montana). Alas, my SUV - despite being 4WD - got stuck in a patch of deep sand. Fortunately I had phone coverage, so was able to call for assistance. About 2 hours later (and $240 lighter), I got winched out of the sand, and was able to continue my trip. This is the second time my vehicle has gotten stuck while visiting a Degree Confluence Point.

Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
